On Monday 8th May, Year 3 went back stage at Sheffield’s iconic Crucible Theatre.
The children were initially sent on a treasure hunt around the theatre’s front of house searching for answers to questions on their work sheet. The question related to dates, artefacts, shows etc. giving them a practical insight and a first introduction to theatre. They were then shown the main crucible theatre and how they are preparing for their next production of Julius Caesar. They saw how the stage is being set up and discovered the theatre beyond the curtain in this fascinating backstage tour. They were excited to visit the green room where many famous stars have taken a break, made a coffee and relaxed before going on stage.
Our visit concluded with a musical workshop where we listened to French Horn and Double Bass musicians from Ensemble 360 play the music of Russia. "Our Year 3 children had a great opportunity to see the workings of a theatre, listen to professional musicians at close hand and ask lots of questions." Mr Woodward, Head of Junior School Music.
