BBC Radio Sheffield celebrated its 50th birthday last week and we were delighted to welcome many of the former presenters and back room staff to Ashdell Grove as part of their celebrations.
Radio Sheffield was originally set up in Ashdell Grove in 1967 and was based there until relocating to the centre of town in 2001. As part of the reunion gathering last Saturday, 10 of our Junior School pupils joined the former employees with Mrs Foster-Major to ask questions about how the building was used, how radio used to work and if they thought radio would still exist in another 50 years time!
Michael Barton, who founded Radio Sheffield, was delighted with the pupils intuitive questioning and the attendees thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing as they walked around their original base and told the children stories of their exploits many years ago.
Thank you to the children, parents and staff for coming in on a Saturday to facilitate this reunion, the children were exemplary ambassadors for the school.
A special thank you to Mrs Foster Major for co-coordinating this event and to Mrs Loasby for the delicious radio cake!
