Our aims of teaching science are to enable children to enjoy the subject and study it with confidence and a sense of achievement. We aim for all pupils to achieve a high standard of scientific knowledge and understanding.
In our lessons we use a variety of teaching and learning styles. Our principle aim is to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding. Sometimes we do this through whole-class teaching, while at other times we engage the children in enquiry based research activities. Wherever possible, we involve the children in ‘real’ scientific activities, carrying out a practical experiment and analysing the results.
Our Science Week programme offers a broad range of practical learning opportunities for every child in Junior School. The joint Year 1 and Year 5 visit to Thackray Medical Museum, and our MAPs (more able pupils) events at Sheffield University are lively additions to the programme.
